Yuzvendra Chahal has equaled Dwayne Bravo’s record for most wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the Sawai Stadium in Jaipur, Chahal claimed four wickets during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Bravo and Chahal both have 183 wickets. Four Indian spinners, including Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra, and Ravichandran Ashwin, are in the top five.
- 183 – Dwayne Bravo
- 183* – Yuzvendra Chahal
- 174 – Piyush Chawla
- 172 – Amith Mishra
- 171 – Ravichandran Ashwin
Chahal has a splendid IPL record, taking 183 wickets in 142 matches at an economy rate of 8.08 with an outstanding average of 19.41.
Chahal played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2014–2021, and it was during his tenure with the Bengaluru-based outfit that he established himself as one of the premier wrist-spinners in world cricket. Chahal took 139 wickets in 113 matches for RCB and is their highest wicket-taker in history. Since joining RR in 2022, Chahal has taken 44 wickets in 28 games.
Talking about the match, despite Chahal’s heroics, RR suffered heartbreak as they lost in a dramatic last-ball finish. The Rajasthan-based outfit was celebrating a win before the no-ball siren doomed their chances. Abdul Samad smashed a six on the last ball of the game to seal SRH’s win.
Sanju Samson earlier in the day won the toss and decided to bat first as RR put up a massive 214 on the board. Jos Buttler scored 95 runs in 59 balls, and Samson continued to be unstoppable by scoring 66 runs in 39 balls.
The game was in RR’s favour when SRH scored 41 runs in the final two overs, despite Chahal’s fantastic spell, which saw him dismiss Anmolpreet Singh, Rahul Tripathi, Henrick Klaasen, and Aiden Markram.
