Even cricket greats are left mesmerized by the one and only MS Dhoni. On Sunday, Chennai Super Kings played Kolkata Knight Riders in their final league match at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Even though CSK lost by six wickets, the atmosphere in Chepauk was as festive as ever as the players prepared to give their supporters one last lap of honour in appreciation.
Gavaskar approached the CSK captain and request a signature for his shirt as MS Dhoni and company turned their focus to the post-match celebration.
Dhoni will then lead his team in a lap of honour while smashing tennis balls into the spectators and giving thanks to the on-hand police officers.
Dhoni appeared to thank the fans and himself in moving scenes at the Chepauk, even as he walked a lap of the stadium with the rest of his team.
Given that CSK is still very much in the running for the playoffs, two of which will be played at Chepauk, it may not be the team’s final visit there this season, but the atmosphere was charged with emotion due to rumours that this was Dhoni’s final IPL season.
On the game Dhoni said, “The dew made a big difference in the second innings. We can’t really blame any of our bowlers. Just that the conditions had a big impact on the game. When we bowled the first ball in the second innings, we knew we needed 180. But there was no way we could have got 180 on that pitch.”
The CSK captain also praised the efforts of Shivam Dube, who was the leading scorer for the men in yellow on the night. “Very happy with what Shivam has done, but important think is that he is not satisfied and keeps improving.”
On Saturday, May 20, CSK will play Delhi Capitals in the Indian capital after collecting 15 points in 13 games.
