Gujarat Titans (GT) kept up their remarkable run for a second straight year and were the first team to earn a spot in the IPL playoffs in 2023. Gujarat Titans performed brilliantly with both bat and ball after suffering a 27-run defeat, making a fantastic day even more memorable.
By defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a score of 34 runs, the defending champions secured a top-two finish, earning a “Q” next to their name.
While Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma continued their streak of collecting wickets, Shubman Gill, who narrowly missed his first IPL century a few games back, made sure he did so this year.
The Sunrisers were the second club, after Delhi Capitals, to be eliminated from the playoff race as a result of the outcome in Ahmedabad.
There are now five teams in the fight for the remaining three berths, and each of them has a good chance of making it to the final four.
Gujatat Titans with 18 points can’t fall below the 2nd spot as only Mumbai Indians can reach the 9-win mark since Chennai Super Kings dropped their last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also have a chance to get 17 points, but in order to do so, they must triumph in both of their remaining contests, one of which comes on Tuesday, May 16 against the Mumbai Indians.
Given that Mumbai losing will help the MS Dhoni-led team stay in the top two, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings will all be rooting for an LSG win.
However, even if LSG or MI win, only one of RCB and Punjab will be able to finish in the top four unless both of the teams in blue lose their respective games following Tuesday.
