Washington Sundar ruled out of IPL 2023

Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed on Thursday that their standout all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. No replacement has been announced as of now.

Washington appeared in seven games for Sunrisers this season, contributing to his team’s ninth-place standing on the standings with 60 runs from five innings and three overall wickets.

The IPL season for Washington has been disrupted by injuries three times in a row. Washington missed the UAE leg of the competition in 2021 because of a finger injury; in the first half of the season, he had taken three wickets for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Washington was signed by Sunrisers for IPL 2022, but he missed four games because of a split webbing in his bowling hand.

“Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi,” the SRH wrote.

Sundar played for the Indian side against Sri Lanka in an ODI and New Zealand in a T20I this year. The all-rounder participated in the three-match series against Australia but was not selected for the starting lineup.

Sundar was purchased by the SRH for INR 8.75 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction. The other team vying for his signature was the Lucknow Super Giants; in the previous season’s edition, Sundar played 9 matches and scored 101 runs at a strike rate of 146.38.

He bowled at an economy rate of 8.54 and picked up six wickets during this season.
