KKR signs Jason Roy for 2.8 CR

The Kolkata Knight Riders have signed England’s Jason Roy for the rest of the IPL 2023 season for INR 2.8 crore. At the 2023 mini-auction, Roy set his starting price at INR 1.5 crore but failed to find a buyer.

The signing comes after KKR suffered a couple of personnel setbacks. With back surgery scheduled in London, regular skipper Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the season and the WTC final, and Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted out.

Roy has previously played for four IPL clubs, including KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His most recent appearance in the league was with the Sunrisers in the 2021 season, when he scored 150 runs in five games, including a half-century.

Jason Roy’s signing will provide KKR with much-needed firepower at the top. He will also bring a wealth of experience, which KKR sorely needs with Shreyas Iyer out.

Unfortunately, KKR didn’t get off to a good start in the IPL 2023, falling to Punjab Kings by 7 runs (D/L). KKR was battling at 146-7 against a target of 192 before the rain came and PBKS was awarded the win.

PBKS had earlier signed uncapped Gurnoor Singh Brar as a replacement for the injured Angad Singh Bawa.

KKR will play RCB at Eden Gardens in Kolkata next.
